With 5 minutes played, a phenomenal play on the left side freed González, who dashed in on goal only to be denied by Nguyen. After a more careful 10-minute opening, Pablo González stepped up again and this time made good on his chance. After a corner kick, Hubník extended his head and found the Spanish midfielder alone the far post, and he rippled the net with his header and sent Sigma into the lead 1-0. Slovan threatened in the 25th minute when, after a blocked header, Koscelník got to the ball but missed the target with his hard attempt.
With 33 minutes played, Sigma nearly doubled their lead as Breite broke through the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. At the other end, Mikula's shot just missed the right post. Towards the end of the first half, the head referee and the video referee deliberated for a long time over a red card for Nešpor. In the end, he remained in the game despite the protests of the Liberec footballers, and the rest of the first half produced no more chances.
In the second half, Slovan increased his activity and tried to catch up with a one-goal deficit, but the home team's defence successfully repelled all attacks. In the 65th minute, after a foul, a penalty was imposed on Rabušic, which was taken by Kamso Mara. However, Mandous guessed the side correctly and sent the ball away, leaving the scoreline unchanged. Slovan players went on the attack in increasing numbers and Sigma began to threaten from breaks. One of them had to deal with Nguyen with a quick run, fortunately he was at the ball before Zahradníček and kicked the ball to safety.
In the end, Slovan had a hard time coming under constant pressure, the game was often interrupted by fouls and errant passes on both sides. Sigma continued to defend responsibly and did not offer our players too much free space. So Liberec lost 1-0 to Olomouc in the first round of the new FORTUNA:LIGA season and went home without any points.
