Championship group, Round 5: FK Jablonec – FC Slovan Liberec 1:0

Derek OBrien
Coach Hornyák´s charges were ready for the 51st Podještěd derby. While Jablonec were assured fourth place, guaranteeing Europa League qualification, Slovan had to fight for the chance. To jump into fifth place, the Slovan had to score more points than in the concurrently played match between Ostrava and Pilsen. Unfortunately, Libor Kozák was missing from the starting lineup, out with a minor injury during the week. He entered the match in the 69th minute. In one of the chances he hit the post, but nobody on the team scored, and Liberec fell 1-0.

Commentary

Slovan could have taken the lead in the second minute. Erik Micovčák fought for the ball and sent it to Pázler for a great chance. He headed it right at Hanuš, who was close to him. But after that, Jablonec took over and got several chances, the home town of Jablonec was more active and created shooting positions, such as at the end of the 13th minute when Jakub Považanec fired outside the lime. Slovan woke up after the chances of the home. But the centers of Potočná, Fukala and Micovčák did not bring more danger. In the 23rd minute, he played the ground corner of Trávník on Hübschman just missed the near post.

The pace of the game slowly faded, as expected. In the 32nd minute, Micovčák shot high. The end of the half belonged to Slovan. Breite's rocket just before halftime flew just high, so the teams went to their dressing rooms still scoreless.

Liberec did not start the second half well. In the 47th minute, when Tomáš Holeš was lucky and beat Nguyen to make it 1-0 for Jablonec. After 53 minutes, Doležal fed Kratochvil in full flight and he just missed. There wasn't much to see on the pitch for the next 20 minutes. In the 69th minute, the coach Hornyák replaced Fukal with Kozák. However, one of his first fights ended with a classic elbow for a yellow card. A moment later it seemed that he had a great opportunity, but the assistant's flag flew upward for offside.

Although Liberec tried, the performance didn’t improve. At the other end, in the 85th minute, Doležal threatened on the counterattack. He didn't shoot but found Kratochvil, who in turn relayed to the experienced Pilík, but he couldn’t beat Nguyen from a sharp angle. After that, Kozák found himself in front of Holeš, but with a hard blast, he only hit the goalpost! Then the ball went under the feet of Pázler. A moment later, Pesek set up for a Kozák header, but the ball sailed high. Frustration began to set in. In the 89th minute, Roman Potočný received a yellow card amid protests. Jablonec managed to make it to the end with their 1-0 lead still intact, earning a victory in the 51st derby.
