Slovan awaits another Friday night match and will face Teplice

Clemens Geisser
L i b e r e c - For the second time in a row, Slovan will face their opponents in U Nisy on a Friday night. After the successful matches with Pardubice (4: 1) and in Příbram (2: 0), our team will compete in the 23rd round of FORTUNA: LIGA on home soil with Teplice. How will the duel turn out? Kick-off will be at 6 p.m.

Our opponents from Teplice come with a streak of three undefeated matches to Liberec and thus, had a good start into March. Last week they successfully fought off Opava, which they defeated by 3:1 with goals from Pavel Moulis, Ladislav Kodad and Jakub Mareš. Before that, they gained one point twice against the teams from the upper half of the table, when they drawed with Baník (1: 1) and  Slavia (1: 1).

Although the team seems stable right now, it struggled to maintain a tight defence and conceived already 43 goals against them, which is the second highest amount of the whole league, just topped by Opava with 46.

Likely the team will be dependend on scoring themselves if they want to take a result of value back home. Hence, their hopes will lie once again on the above mentioned top scorer Jakub Mareš, who scored 8 times this season.

History tells our players to take a certain amount of caution, as the last home win against Teplice dates back to 2016. However, there is no need to for our team to be overly daunted, because it is Slovan that has been unbeaten for six matches in a row. During this period which already lasts for over a month now, Pavel Hoftych´s side won against Plzeň, Zlín, Pardubice and most recently Příbram and took draws against České Budějovice and Karviná.

Furthermore the team advanced to the round of the last 8 in MOL-Cup, adding further confidence to the team spirit. Especially noticeable is the strong performance of our midfielders who turned out to be forward like goal scorers. Only within the last three matches Michal Sadílek scored three times, Ondřej Karafiát  twice and Jakub Pešek another two. The best scorer, however, remains  forward Michael Rabušic with seven goals, the most assists accounts Pešek for, with five in numbers.

Still there are no fans allowed in the stands of the U Nisy, but Czech Television will broadcast the match live. Kick-off will be on Friday night at 6 p.m.
