Well prepared for the second half of the season

Richard Walde
Liberec - FC Slovan Liberec has been preparing for the second half of the FORTUNA:LIGA season in recent weeks. After three matches in the Czech Republic, coach Luboš Kozel´s team traveled to Malta, where they took part in an international tournament. The results of the test matches were quite impressive.

Successful practice matches

Immediately after the end of the first half of the season, the traditional Tipsport Liga took place. In the first match, the team lost 4:3 to league rivals Bohemians Prague, having trailed 0:4 at one point. In the second game, Slovan won 6:2 against the second league team FC Silon Táborsko, before they defeated FK Viktoria Žižkov from the third league 3:2.

This was followed by a training camp on the island of Malta and participation in the Tipsport Malta Cup there. Against the Austrian representative WSG Tirol they managed a 1:1, the Slovakian team FK AS Trenčín they beat by a goal in the last minute with 2:1.

The final preparation match was against a rival from the Czech Republic, FC Trinity Zlin. The match ended the preparation with a solid 4:0.

Painful departures, interesting arrivals

Several players who played for Liberec in the first half of the season left the club in the winter. Especially the departures of Mick van Buren and Maksym Talovjerov were painful. Jan Matoušek and Kamso Mara also left the club.

New to the squad is, among others, the young player Milan Lexa, who played the first half of the season for the second team and took part in the training camp in Malta. The departure of the second goalkeeper Jan Stejskal was countered with the signing of Hugo Jan Bačkovský. Also, Ondřej Lehoczki is back in Liberec after a loan.

For the offense, Victor Olatunji was brought in from Cypriot side AEK Larnaka to plug the hole left by Mick van Buren. Also on a positive note, Ahmad Ghali is fit again after a long injury and provided two goals in Malta. Mohamed Doumbia, who has also been injured for a long time, was also able to get a few minutes of play.
