Commentary
Another eleven minutes and the visitors were finally able to get ahead in the score. Herolind Shala was battling hard inside the box, his first pass to Marek Bakoš was not successful, but the second one found Josef Šural who made no mistake and fired the ball right under the crossbar to give his team a crucial 1-0 lead. Now, Hajduk would need three to advance.
Hajduk had their fair share of chances, some of which resulted in corner kicks or free kicks, but great work by defenders David Hovorka and Lukáš Bartošák was just enough to neutralize most of them before they became threats.
One of the free kicks resulted in a save by Tomáš Koubek and right after that, Bartošák managed to find Delarge with a long aerial pass, the striker got into the box, but was taken down legally by Goran Milović. That would help keep the score tight before half time.
Hajduk was the first team to have a big chance in the second half when Franck Ohandza and Nikola Vlašić started making mess within the Slovan penalty area. David Pavelka was there to block both attempts and even though home fans believed he touched the ball with his hand, no penalty was called.
Later on, Hajduk had another chance when Koubek, was getting too risky with the ball, which is in his nature, as Slovan fans know. This team, his errant pass got deflected off of Ohandza and out of the reach of the goal.
Slovan could score another goal with quarter of an hour left to play when Šural carried the ball in and was looking for Milan Kerbr to receive the pass, but Hajduk players managed to defuse the near-fatal pass thanks to a foul.
As the game was nearing its conclusion and it was starting to become more and more obvious that Hajduk would not score three goals and advance, Koubek was lucky that he didn´t lose his clean sheet, which would be the third in a row in the competition. Ante Roguljić sent out a perfect shot, which hit the crossbar.
That would be it then. Slovan would beat Hajduk once again and secure a spot in the UEFA Europa League group stage where they will meet Olympique de Marseille, SC Braga and FC Groningen.
