FC Slovan falls short of Supercup in Pilsen

Winning the domestic cup in the last season made FC Slovan eligible to participate in the Czech Supercup against the league champion, Viktoria Plzeň. The match was played in Pilsen and Liberec newcomer Marek Bakoš was able to come back to where he won the title a couple of years back for the first time since leaving.

The home team could open the scoring very quickly in the fifth minute, but Jan Kopic was only able to hit the post. Twenty minutes later, Jan Kovařík executed a corner kick perfectly and the following header by Tomáš Hořava found his way past Lukáš Hroššo to make it 1-0.

It didn´t take long for Pilsen to double up their lead. Daniel Kolář was able to do so after getting lose to receive a great pass by Kopic and effectively heading the ball in. Six minutes later, with not much time left in the first half, Dzon Delarge got to a very good chance to get his team back within one, but after playing around with the defence and the goalkeeper, he missed the goal by inches.

FC Slovan started the second half well, just seven minutes in, Pilsen goalkeeper Matúš Kozáčik conceded a goal. Zdeněk Folprecht lifted the ball over the defence to find Lukáš Bartošák inside the penalty area and the newcomer managed to one-time the ball over the goalie and in to make it 2-1.

Liberec was able to create more chances to tie the score in the rest of the second half, but none of those were converted in a goal. Josef Šural once received a ball right in front of the net, but couldn´t finish well under pressure, David Pavelka could pull it off later on, but didn´t fire a perfect shot and it only found Kozáčik´s hands.
